VOLTAIRE (HANN, KWPN)
By Furioso II/Gotthard/More Magic xx
Voltaire has been graded in Holland as “keur-preferent”: only three other stallions have reached that same honor. He comes from 2 outstanding lines: Furioso II and Gotthard. Furioso II (by the French Furioso xx) has influenced the jumper stud books all over the world: he produced 200 “state premium” mares and at least 70 approved stallions, some of them standing at stud in several countries. His full brother, Le Mexico is also a very frequent ancestor of international showjumpers in several countries. Fifteen years after his death, Gotthard is still a celebrity amid the German breeders, and his strength is still apparent in his offspring and greatsons. Also important in Voltaire’s pedigree is a back-cross to thoroughbred in his 3rd generation, with More Magic xx and Precipitation xx. Voltaire had a great performance, and competed in Calgary, Stockholm, Lanaken, Helsinki, Wiesbaden, Wembley with Jos Lansink. As a stallion, he is noted because he was the stallion with most offspring in the Atlanta ’96 Olympic Games, and he has been among the 10 leading stallions for the last 10 years, being 4th in 1998 and 1999. His best known offspring are Finesse, Vink Especiale, Altair, Play it Again, Helios, El Campeón’s Quality Time, Mezcalero, and many others.
